Nick has been composing music from the age of 7. He completed his music degree winning the rarely awarded Michael Grady Memorial Prize for Composition. He has gone on to win other awards and is currently pursuing a PhD in Musical Composition. What will impress you most about Nick's music is it's integrity. After a brief foray into the contemporary classical music scene in the late 1980's, he moved away from this medium to further explore diatonic music - which he felt still had much to say. As a result, Nick composes some truly beautiful music. His CD, African Rain, is a collection of poignant piano pieces that will give you respite from the chaos of daily life. It's a perfect CD to unwind to....as a world traveler spending several years in many countries; Nick's music reflects his experiences. The title track 'African Rain' for example captures the mood of personal experience looking across the Rift Valley in Kenya just as a very light rain begins to hit the dry dust. Besides East Africa, Nick has also lived and worked in the Middle East, Europe and South East Asia and although you will find no direct 'borrowing' from these cultures in his music, you will often hear hints of these experiences. Nick is essentially a Violist and Double Bassist and keeps active as a performer. Much of his music is available as published scores for performance groups, details of which are available on his website.
