This collection, entitled Sorrento Sunset, our seventh as a band, is a fairly diverse grouping of songs, some brand new and some others songs that I had done previously on my solo CD, Love, Hope and Story Songs, more than ten years ago, and which I felt deserved some updating. Like our last collection, SUBURBIA, there is a song about family life, \'The Better Things,\' and a few general love songs, such as \'Carpe Diem,\' \'Breathless,\' or the title track. There are several blues cuts on this one, including an updated version of \'Barhopper Special\' and a new composition called \'It All Keeps Coming Back To The Blues,\' and the song, \'Hell In A Hurricane,\' which has sat around for a couple of years, written for the victims of the Katrina storm that hit New Orleans. As an English and Social Studies teacher, I often find fodder for songs in topics relative to what I am teaching, and teaching English 9 again this past school year, I penned the selection, \'Perspectives (The To Kill A Mockingbird song) to further emphasize some of the main themes of the novel for my purposes. Kudos to Harper Lee. Then, there are the titles such as \'Abyssinia,\' which is largely a playful exercise in word play garnered in large part from the language of the Beats. As it is also a salutation of exit, I thought it most appropriate to place that selection as the last track on the CD. Julie Elkins penned the lyrics to her song, \'Games,\' which she sings as well, and I merely added some guitar which took the song into a rather unexpected direction. I\'ve enjoyed creating with the several persons involved in the creation of this CD, and I am grateful that it is finally finished and ready to go. I hope you enjoy it.
