He began dabbling in songwriting in his early to mid-twenties and performed with The Dismissed - a bash and pop rock band once described as being 'like The Replacements, pretending that nobody cares about them, only less drunk.' The Dismissed never split up but just stopped playing. It was around this time that Dave decided he was ready for an education. After college he worked as a social worker for a while in the areas of homelessness and mental illness until he realized that his cravings to create and play music never diminished. Although Dave continued to mess around with songwriting during his hiatus from music, it took quitting his job to get back on track. Willie and Wishing You Were Here are two songs that he started while in college, but did not finish until preparing for this album. The first full song written for the album was Live Here Anyway. In this song Dave shares his struggle leaving a place he loves behind, longing to go back, and realizing that he can't. 'Lyrically, I write about my experience and hope that listeners can find themselves in there, too. It's all divinely inspired.' Paledave music is diverse. Some of it is jazzy, some of it poppy, and some of it is just plain rockin'. What's consistent is Dave's love of 'the hook.' You will find his melodies stick in your head for hours. Check out Born Beautiful and Counting Moles to see what we mean. Dave's guitar playing is emotional and melodic over tuneful rhythms. He also often records and performs with guitarist Bob Huffman. Bob's attention to detail, technique, and his genuineness are apparent in his contributions on Find What You Love. Dave stated that he is especially fond of Bob's work on the song Georgia. 'Bob's guitar just made me melt when I first heard him play that part [intro to Georgia] in the studio. It perfectly reflects the mood of the lyrics.'
