Product Notes

Born in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, Pedro began his professional career as a pianist at an early age after completing 5 years of studies at the State Conservatory of Music in Uberlandia, his hometown. Later in Brasilia, the capital of the country, he attended several specialization courses and workshops at the local music school where he was exposed to a variety of musical influences, national and worldwide. Participating in high-profile shows such as Project Classic Park and Sarau Instrumental Gates, he had the opportunity to share the stage which featured richly talented and already established musicians. Just to mention a few, saxophone player Widor Santiago, guitar player Lula Galvão, bassist Alfredo Paixao; trombone-player Raul de Souza; composer Itamar Barros, the internationally famous Brazilian singer Rosa Passos; jazz singer Itamara Koorax, voted one of the best jazz artists in the world; and also the well known Latin percussionist Alex Acuna from California, among others. From 1992 to 1994, Pedro lived in San Francisco, California where, again, he had the opportunity to perform with great names of the Brazilian, Spanish and American music scene, expanding his knowledge and music influences as well as incorporating new techniques into his 'sound' performing alongside inspiring artists. Among them are Gary Brown (bassist for Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, and Dori Caymmi) guitarist Jeff Buenz, drummer Kurt Moore, and bassist Kai Eckhardt. Maintaining his roots, Pedro interpreted pretty much all kinds of Brazilian rhythms to the so eclectic community such as the Californian, performing with respected local Brazilian transplants. While traveling between the US and Brazil, Pedro completed courses such as: Jazz Instrumental Series with pianist Elenice Maraneci, and the International Summer Course of the Brasilia School of Music in 1993, 1995 and 1997 with instructors Ian Guest, Dario Galante, Jota Morais, Cliff Korman and Leandro Braga, etc. Some of his greatest musical piano influences have been Antônio Carlos Jobim, Bill Evans, Ivan Lins, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Chick Corea, and Michael Camilo. Back in Brazil, he was hired as musician, arranger and musical director of the Pop group 'So Pra Contrariar' with whom he traveled all over the world for live performances and reached the record mark of over 10 million copies sold, under the recording label of BMG Brazil & BMG Latin/USA. During that time, Pedro had the opportunity to perform with 'monsters' of the Brazilian Pop music such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, Daniela Mercury, Roberto Carlos, and many others. Six years later, due to his distinctive style and tasteful approach, Pedro was invited to follow the band's lead vocalist, singer and writer Alexandre Pires in his solo-career. Their International debut was at Carnegie Hall in New York, side by side with worldwide famous figures of Latin Music. In 2003, Pedro was nominated for the Latin Grammy in the category of 'Best Album of the year' for his production with Alexandre Pires of the CD entitled 'Estrella Guia'. Pedro is the author of two songs on it, and most of the arrangements for that album were also done by him.. Since then, Pedro has been living in Florida and has been invited to perform all over the state with several artists from all nationalities and musical backgrounds. It is worth to mention his participation at Al di Miola & Leonida Augutin's project entitled 'Cosmopolitan Life', soon to be released; a live performance with Pery Ribeiro, the first singer ever to record the worldwide famous song 'The Girl form Ipanema'; just to mention a few of his accomplishments for the past 6 months. These days, Pedro can be seen and heard regularly at Jazz Clubs all over town, for instance, the Van Dyke's Café (every Sunday), Jazzid, among others. All that while he was producing his brand new solo-album, 'BALAIO', with all original tracks composed and arranged by himself. BALAIO is a rich and flavored Instrumental Pop Jazz with a tasty combination of music from around the world and, of course, with a touch of the artist's Brazilian roots.
