Product Notes

Petula 'Tutu' Fluellen BIOGRAPHY TuTu D'Vyne TuTu D'Vyne was born November 25, 1961 in Augusta, Georgia. Born Petula L. Rouse, she grew up singing and playing piano in a local Baptist church choir. The daughter of the late Eula Rouse, an honest and fair minded domestic worker, TuTu or Linda as she was called, learned the skill of making things happen as a lifestyle as she survived the death of her mother while still in her teens. While in the youth choir she began to show promise not only as a singer but as a pianist and organist as well. She was taken under the wings of the church musician and she took off like the speed of light. Her tenacity and courage against many obstacles is how TuTu found music as her haven of sanctuary. Singing throughout school and in the church choir well into her teens, she acquired the reputation as a gifted and talented young woman. She began leading the youth choirs and singing solo in the adult choir. TuTu's voice was being heard at talent shows, community functions, television and radio commercials, church anniversaries, civic activities as well as special events for dignitaries in the Augusta C.S.R.A. TuTu D'Vyne chose to extend her studies by attending Paine College in Augusta, Georgia to pursue her musical dream of becoming and educator of vocal studies. This is where destiny one day had her in the ear range of the great jazz pianist and entertainer Mr. Jerry Harris. Under his tutelage Mr. Harris began to guide TuTu in the study of jazz, musical concepts and the importance of delivery of a song to the audience. Her style developed as she awakened her voice to a new era as she traveled throughout the South-East region of the United States singing and playing in churches from Virginia to Louisiana. In 1991 she teamed up with friend and saxophonist Mr. Tim Sanders to become the lead singer for the Playback Band and TuTu D'Vyne Show. Opening for such acts as the United Negro College Fundraiser with Lou Rawls, opening for New Edition, James Brown, Melba Moore, Five Men on a Stool, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, Jennifer Holiday, Freda Payne, Freddie Jackson, Johnny Taylor, The Manhattens and Tyrone Davis. This is an exciting time in her life and the world she performs to. Step inside a D'Vyne moment where music is and always has been who she is. Enjoy the sounds of the incredible voice of TuTu D'Vyne.
