Truth Has a Name
Promise is the praise and worship team at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. The group was formed in the summer of 1998 to lead a new contemporary worship service. The band has been through several changes since then, but has been in it's present form for several years. Soon after it's formation Promise began hosting semi-regular Christian coffee houses. Often other local bands were invited to play as well. In March of 1999 Promise made it's first of several appearances at the Rock 'n Java, a Christian coffee house in Charlotte. Promise has performed and/or led worship at many local churches, special occasions, and music festivals. A favorite is the annual Lake Norman Outdoor Music Festival held every September, where Promise is one of the featured acts. In September of 2001, Promise provided music leadership for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Southeastern District Youth Evangelism Conference in Richmond, Virginia. For three days the group led a group of over 200 teens and youth leaders in worship and praise of our Lord. In 1999, guitarist and vocalist Bryan VanderHill, inspired by the Holy Spirit, began writing original songs that were used in worship services and peformed at concerts. In 2001 Promise went into the studio and produced it's first CD of all-original songs entitled 'This Is Heaven'. In 2003 the group recorded 'Truth Has a Name', the CD available here. The members of Promise range from college students to Baby Boomers!
