Can You Govern Your Animal Soul?
Rachel Lomax hails from the hills of northern California. Her music emerges in gasps and floods, reflecting the landscapes of both her hometown and her intestines. Carefully forged melodies float and climb over classically trained piano, then fall off the side of a jazz cliff and stumble around in the dark, limping, only to see the top of a mountain and start the journey again. "Can you govern your animal soul?" reflects a long period of searching and hibernation, full of strings, bass and natural noise, always returning to the picture of a woman and a piano, alone in an empty room. Listeners leave the album with a sense of having traveled a long way, and a longing to find out where the world can take them from here.
