Product Notes

U.S. rock band The Reckoning was founded in 2003... ...by Andi Schenck (drums), Corey Schenck (guitars/keyboards/vocals), Rico Schenck (bass), and Darrell Masingale (lead vocals/guitar). Their cutting-edge yet radio friendly songs strike a chord with a diverse fan base. For the past two years, The Reckoning have established themselves as the band in Houston, Texas. In Houston they have secured a base of operations in which they have been perfecting their live performances. The quartet has been working with renowned Los Angeles-based producer Dito Godwin (No Doubt) for the past two years as their manager/mentor. In June of 2003, the band traveled to San Jose to record their debut album with established Bay Area producer/musician Robert Berry (Magna Carta Records). The Reckoning went to California with over three-dozen songs and selected the best twelve for the project. In early 2004, they traveled to Los Angeles to finish production on the album with Godwin at West Lake Audio facilities. The result is a retro-modern album with catchy melodies, danceable rhythms, and rich harmonies all combined into compact and powerful songs. Guitarist Corey Schenck says, 'Each of us is a songwriter and each has a clear, unique style. What brings it all together is when we get together and arrange the songs as a group. The result is diversity among the songs and continuity throughout the album.' Besides the ability to write and record a phenomenal album, the band's strength truly lies in their musicianship and live performances. They hit the stage each night with professionalism in every aspect making the audience feel as though they are a part of the performance. The band's individual skills and musical backgrounds are incredible. Starting at a young age, Andi has been playing drums in a variety of bands (rock, progressive, funk, metal, pop) and composes cultural, multi-percussion drum pieces. Corey plays a variety of instruments (guitar, piano, synthesizer, bass, mandolin, even dijeridu and Kenyan guitar) and is classically trained in guitar and piano. He holds a Master's in Music Composition, has taught music theory, composition, and guitar at a university, and is close to finishing his Doctoral in Music Composition. Rico, a self-made musician, grew up in the musical environment of his two older brothers. In the past, he has been the vocalist/bassist for several modern rock and funk bands in the Houston area. Darrell began music at the young age of 6, singing in church choirs and learning classical guitar. He grew up gigging with bands in Tulsa throughout high school and college before joining the Schenck brothers. For the past year, The Reckoning has joined forces with four brass players. This brass quartet brings rich diversity to the band, with backgrounds in jazz, classical, blues, and ska, by incorporating their sound into the rock format. Trumpeters Johan Keus and Jason Browne along with trombonists Mark Nguyen and Matt Tomaselli met Corey Schenck at the university where their friendships led to the merging of the rock band and the horns. A rock band with an arsenal of four horns may be something quite rare these days, but hearing and seeing The Reckoning on stage is a musical experience that a listener won't soon forget. Currently, The Reckoning is playing in Texas and is working and performing in California while their album is being shopped in the music industry. With this unique and accessible style, it is only a matter of time before the U. S. and world radio markets will be flooded with a new sound. The Reckoning is here...
