Where Has the Love Gone
Reni Simon, was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the home of blues, soul music and jazz. There is no doubt that Beale Street & the delta influenced her voice. While growing up,her dad played saxophone and loved jazz and that's how she was exposed to the wonderful melodic songs from the 40's that she loves and always wanted to record. In her earlier career she recorded for one of the top publishing companies in Memphis, singing song demos for Eddie Floyd and other Stax recording artists & writers. She signed her first solo recording contract with Steve Cropper of Booker T. & the M.G.'s & the Blues Brothers. She released a single 'I Idolize You', an Ike & Tina Turner song. Later she moved to San Francisco and toured with The Elvin Bishop Band, sang background on 'Fooled Around and Fell In Love' a million seller hit, she performed in concerts in all the major cities in the United States and on all the music television shows in Los Angeles. She sang for song writers in the San Francisco area and Barbara Streisand heard one of the song demos & liked her voice so much she decided to record the song. When she moved to Nashville she sang background & toured Canada with Roy Orbison. She sang the background parts that her aunt, Anita Kerr had arranged & originally sang on. This CD is a tribute to Anita, who wrote the title song 'Where Has The Love Gone?' for Reni when she lived in New York City. Now back in Memphis, Reni has continued to record recently finishing a CD tribute to Memphis female vocalist called 'The Memphis Belles',which included Carla Thomas, Ann Peeples, Cybil Shepard, and many others. That's Reni's daughter & son on the cover of the CD. She made her daughter a promise to record this CD and she always wanted to record her son's song'Somebody'. Reni's family is very musical and she has dedicated this CD to all of them.
