Product Notes

'If the Strokes gave less of a damn about being cool, they'd be this good'. (Brian Mann, musicnet) 'Like a weightier Coldplay or Echo And The Bunnymen without the bombast, Revere excel in creating a brand of indie rock that could have arenas full of people punching the air'. (Don O'Mahony, Evening Echo) /REVERE Revere is a four-piece band that hails from Cork, Ireland. With a sound that is best characterised by it's raw guitar driven melodies, dynamic rhythm section, progressive arrangements and affecting lyrics, they have steadily built-up a strong following around the venues and clubs of Cork. /Biography John Carroll, John McLean, Gary Lucy and James O'Sullivan grew up in Cork. They came together as students in secondary school in 1997 and quickly started playing as a group. All four shared a passion for music, and a determination to create a distinctive style. 'At first we jammed, it was fun, but there was no real cohesion to it. All things musical, like dynamics, arrangements and the likes were above us.' Recalls John McLean. It was not long, however, before they would adapt to this newfound penchant for music and after eventually agreeing on a name, Revere was born. 'We caught on. And as soon as we did the band began to take some form.' Says Gary about their earlier practice sessions. When asked about influences on their music, John Carroll offers this answer - 'Influences? Well that's a hard question. We don't like to pigeon- hole ourselves or at that, try to label our music. An ambiguous response to the question of our 'sound' will always be called for in this band because, I guess, we are all coming from different places, with different ideas, opinions about how we should sound'. John Carroll remembers ' I grew up listening to a barrage of bands from the 80's and early 90's. Everything from Pink Floyd, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen and early Radiohead.' 'We're all for progressive rock', says Gary 'or whatever you want to call it, but there's a lot of soulless drivel that is considered modern rock today, isn't there'. 'How we define our music doesn't really figure' refutes James, 'we began as an outfit to play real music as real musicians and hoped we could create something unique in the process' The very recording of our demos is done in our own recording studio. Mixing, mastering and even the printing and labelling of our first EP, Progress, were carried out by Revere Music Ltd (Our own Record Label).' Their first EP, Progress, released on their own independent record label, Revere Music Ltd., was released in 2003. The radio single 'Untruth', taken from Progress, received widespread airplay from major Irish radio stations and climbed to the top of the most requested play list on Red FM's award winning show, Green On Red. Following the release, Revere were voted Best Cork Band by the listeners of Cork's 96 FM and Best Unsigned Cork Band by the listeners of Red FM. Revere backed up this success with numerous gigs around the country that included playing to 1200 people at The Cork Opera House.
