There's a new sound coming out of Oklahoma City. It's not quite retro, and it's not quite alternative. It's not metal; it's not country; it's not jazz. It's somehow all - and none - of the above. Rhetoric was formed in the spring of 2001 when the acoustic trio of John Eads (vocals), John Cody (guitars, vocals), and Travis Lane (guitars, keyboards, vocals) met Scotty Lutz (drums and percussion). With the addition of Mike Dubrow on bass in September 2001, the band's lineup solidified into a formidable musical force. Combining over sixty years of musical experience with influences from Led Zeppelin to Harry Connick Jr., the members of Rhetoric bring a diverse array of backgrounds and skills to the group. Known for their solid and dynamic live performances, Rhetoric has built a dedicated and ever-growing following through dozens of performances (including the prestigious KATT New Years' Show for two years running and concert parties for 3 Doors Down, Tool, Kid Rock, and Saliva) -- while at the same time writing, arranging and recording two full-length independent CDs. Never content to rest on their laurels, the band has actively pursued bookings in other markets (playing in the historic Deep Ellum district of Dallas as well as other locations) and has it's sights set on becoming known among the premier acts in the region. From their humble beginnings playing 'Open Mic Night' to headlining shows at the Bricktown Brewery, they have paid their 'dues' and appear well on their way to reaching that goal.
