Sunday Morning Solitude
My music is inspired by getting up early on Sunday mornings, greeting the day outside with a fresh cup of coffee in hand, just taking in the peace and quiet of a new day, uncluttered with obligations. I typically follow this ritual by sitting down at the piano and playing whatever comes to mind. I started this Sunday morning ritual while I was in school at the University of Minnesota Duluth, back in 1985. I routinely got up very early on Sunday mornings, attended mass at the cathedral overlooking lake Superior, then stopped for a quick breakfast. I then proceeded to the campus, supposedly to study, but always ended up in the music department piano rooms, writing and playing songs on the baby grand piano for hours. "Sunday Morning Solitude" was one of the pieces I wrote during that time, and played over and over and over. Thanks for listening - I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed recording it!
