Product Notes

Straight from the mouth of life and the mind of music is the best way to describe the hip hop styles of Rise One. Born in the mid 70's in St. Louis Missouri, home of the real Blues and the gateway to the west, Rise grew up surrounded by old time R&B and classic Blues tunes. Introduced to Rap music in the late 80's, Rise realized what it was he wanted to do. The concept of matching rhymes to ride over break beats without singing hooked him. As a preteen male and brother among siblings under a single parent household, Rise was exposed to the welfare system, street violence, and constant relocation. Sadly, this is still considered average for young black males. Soon he would move to California at the age of seventeen with his mother and stepfather. In California Rise met up with Omen Wolfgang where they formed L.A.D. Soon after high school they moved to Los Angeles where they worked with Roam-n-Boys Music and released their first single "We Come Ruff" under Loon-E-Bin Recordings. The song was put in rotation on the local radio stations and quickly became a hit in the L.A. area. When financial and other differences became a problem it was decided that L.A.D. would move to neighboring Arizona where they would add Martio (Omen's brother) to the group and change the name to Mad Lad. Mad Lad would go on to release three albums in six years under their own label R.O.I. (Reek Of Indo), while building credibility and helping solidify a modern era of underground hip hop in Tucson, Arizona. Soon after Mad Lad split up, Rise partnered up with Louis Mercury (CEO of Chicken Salad Studios) and began to literally build ChicSal Inc. Soon the dream was manifested, the studio was up and running, and the recording began. Three partners were soon added. Influence would become the next Emcee to join, DJ Rich would become the resident DJ, and Bats was somehow the silent partner all the while. Now, after collaborating with some of the Southwest's hottest producers (Mankind, Yung Greez, Merc, Plado, and more), Rise's first solo album is complete. Being that so much has come so far, so fast, Rise One has truly captured it all in music and words, making it by all means a Work of Art.
