The Rochford Jazz Ensemble's ROCH4D Rochford Jazz, (Jim Szana, Clacie Neu, and Lonnie Schumacher) is an instrumental trio consisting of piano, drums, and bass, that plays popular, recognizable music, along with some older Swing, Latin, and Jazz standards, with their own arrangements and in their own unique style. The music of the CD "ROCH4D" can occasionally be heard on SD Public Radio's Jazz Nightly, home of radio DJ Jim "Uncle Jimmo" Clark who also did liner notes on this project. 'ROCH4D' covers the 4 B's; songs by THE BEATLES, BASIE, BRUBECK, along with BOSSA NOVA Rochford Jazz is a member of the South Dakota Fine Arts Touring Roster and has been since 2002. The band has played for President Bush's reception in Sioux Falls SD in 2002, and although they have performed as far away as Boulder CO & Lincoln NE, they generally play locally in central and western SD. The band traveled to Rio de Janeiro in early 2003 to study Latin music at it's roots, and was invited to play at a club and private party in Rio. In real life, Jim is a dentist (Dentistry at St Charles in Pierre and an office in Murdo), Lonnie is a handyman (Lonnie's Home Work), anc our old drummer Clacie works for Chris Supply in Rapid City, The group likes to feel that they play music that people can tap and hum along with; that listeners can carry on conversations with friends while still enjoying familiar tunes with interesting arrangements and melodic content. Their danceable music is best described as mainstream easy-listening popular and standard jazz instrumental with a "splash of class; think of champagne and red high heeled dancers. Relax, reminisce, romance.
