Product Notes

Disco 8 is the latest CD from artist Sandy Chochinov... One can go on and on trying to come up with definitive details as to what is happening on this disc. Words that come to mind are nostalgic, soulful, edgy, avant garde and serene. Say what you will, in the end it can only be summed up as 100 percent "Pure Choch." As with all of Sandy's compositions, he creates an expressive and passionate tone while unrepentantly remaining true to his influences and craft. I love listening to Sandy do his thing. Personally his music is like a time machine to my past. Some of my very first musical recollections while growing up in Winnipeg were of Sandy rehearsing in the basement of our house on Hartford Ave. He struck a familiar chord with my family; the vents and walls resonating with every note he played. My sister always expressed her opinion, as she would run down to the basement to unplug his amp and wave the prong in front of him; expressing how much his playing meant to her. And what she would do the next time she heard it! Unlike my sister, he was definitely not into the Monkees... The rehearsals eventually moved to a place on Pearce Street with a band called The Quest. Not knowing the address didn't matter, I recall riding my bike over there just to hear what was going on. Like a recognizable audible path, I could hear his playing down the street; leading me to that unmistakable well-known "Choch" sound. It's funny how some of the most important and influential people you know never hear you say how much they mean to you... I was never a musician, but was always a music lover. I owe a lot of my music sensibility to Sandy. He made me aware of the beauty and deeper meaning of a song... He remains my very favorite bass player of any that I know... Anyone who is familiar with Sandy knows exactly what I'm talking about. For those of you who are not aware of his extraordinary talent, check out his latest release Disco 8, or any of his other releases on CdBaby.com. Discover a musician that has and always will remain true to himself and his ongoing love affair with song. Hersh Garber October 2008 What a delight to receive another CD of highly original and inspired music from Sandy Chochinov! Each of his albums offers a tantalizing cornucopia of funk/fusion/rock/jazz gumbo and Disco 8 is no exception. This is music for the heart, mind and soul from the heart, mind and soul of some of this country's finest practitioners (okay, Garber lives in the States now but he's still a Canadian!) capable of painting from a rich and diverse musical palette. What you get is always surprising, rousing, rewarding and ultimately satisfying. Don't let the title fool you. Like the man says, "This ain't no disco, this ain't no fooling around." Sandy, Lewsh, Dave, Steve and the gang: you guys rock me, baby!
