In the Beginning
If your rock-n-roll has been running on the same fuel lately it's time to fill up on the high-octane sounds of In the Beginning, the debut album from Scilter. Similar in style to Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin and Theory of a Deadman, Scilter's music heads down the roads less traveled. The album opens with the powerful track Cheated, a defiant song about commitment and the uncertainty of love. But hold on to the wheel for track #2, So Different - this edgy, progressive rock song reveals the true genius of lead singer/guitarist/lyricist Kerry Adams. Speeding along the listener zips by the soccer mom SUV's, supercharged by non-stop rockers such as Prison for You and Face of My Hero. You can't drive at 90mph all day so listen to Hideaway as you slow down and pull into the rest stop for tracks such as My Escape and Forgiven. These tracks bring into focus Kerry's signature vocal style that fluidly moves from moody to powerful and back again. Then it's back into the fast lane for the closing track Shameless which will have you reaching for the repeat all button on your CD player. Scilter comes from the small town of Zephyrhills, FL, a town of contrasts that attracts retirees and skydivers from all over the world. Fortunately the band took it's influence from the high-speed sport, diving headfirst into the rarified air of progressive rock. A refreshing change from the negative tone and "wall of noise" typical of many of today's offerings, Scilter's music combines intensity and raw emotions into a defined sound that listeners connect with.
