Product Notes

Like a young David Bowie, singer/songwriter Scott Deans began his foray into music playing saxophone in grammar school. Soon, his impulses guided him into the world of rock and roll where he traded in his sax for an electric guitar and picked up a thing or two from listening to records by guys named Jimi and Jimmy and Chet and Eric. Music became ingrained in his being as sure as he was breathing. His restless and curious spirit took him from Chicago to London, where he heard a voice deep inside chanting 'this is what you're supposed to do.' So he did - all around London, playing guitar with plenty of talented musicians and learning all about the challenges and excitement of the music business. With over 10,000 bands in London at the time, the business sure was hopping. England gave him a good start, but it was time to come home...or almost home. Hooking up with a buddy back in the states, via transatlantic telephone, Deans put together a band and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They rented an old run down house and moved in with their instruments, three dogs and a van parked in the garage. From their base in the beer city, Deans and the group traveled around every small town in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest playing funk, R&B and good ol' rock & roll. Being a road dog felt good for a while, so Deans expanded his vagabond vision. He discarded a permanent address and traveled throughout the United States playing in a variety of incarnations and transformations and gaining an appreciation for all kinds of musical styles. From electronic and acoustic to heavy horns and even pan flutes, if it's good music of any kind, chances are Scott Deans is into it. He began getting more serious about writing and sound design and spent many a morning (after the gig) in his hotel room banging out song ideas and envisioning the perfect production. In the band Geneva, his last super group venture before going solo, the members all switched instruments and vocal responsibilities. Deans became a proficient multi-instrumentalist and began his journey into the realm studio production. He had a pretty good knack for making things sound good even with limited resources. After commercial radio in Chicago began playing a single, written and produced by Scott, his penchant for songwriting and studio production soared. Chicago beckoned him back home, so there he settled with his musical desire intact and a home studio waiting in the wings. With influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Sting to The Wallflowers, 'Plugged In Again' is Deans' first solo project. Despite the fact that he wrote all of the songs, played all of the instruments and did all production by himself, he still considers himself just a member of a band. 'The great thing about working on a project like this is all the new material that's uncovered in the process and everything I learn about my own musical style.' says Deans. 'I'm committed to working on my craft and continuing to put out new music. But, don't look for sameness. Next time, I have no idea what will come out. But I do know that it will always be a labor of love.'
