Beyond Doubt & Decay
Sharks Don't Sleep (SDS) is the latest offspring of the electro-rock scene in London. It's sound emerges from the blending of post-rock (Mogwai, Explosions in the sky, Godspeed you !! Black Emperor) with electro and trip-hop (Tricky, Portishead). A subtile experimental texture (the result of influences from Hood and the Books) gives each song a very particular atmosphere that often conveys a certain sense of melancholy. SDS's distinctiveness expresses itself best through their experimentation of the boundaries of voice and sound by exploring distortions and through the key role of guitars. Each song of 'Beyond doubt and decay' can be considered as a distinct cornerstone, contributing a very own particularity to the whole album, while maintaining an obvious homogeneity. The succession of the songs is intended as a sort of inner journey, experienced almost as a trance, from which each listener returns somewhat altered. As for the lyrics, their aim is to highlight the excesses and sometime oppression of modern life and to denote the importance of individual responsability in the shaping of our existence and that of others. Aude Lemogne (lyricist) comes from Luxembourg, has lived in Paris and New-York, while French-born Aymeric THUAULT (composer, all instruments) has spent years in Asia. They both currently live in London.
