Serfin' the Beat
In the best tradition of such musical greats as Paul McCartney or John Fogerty, Shawn O'Shea's CD 'Serfin The Beat' is essentially a one-man effort with riff-rock whiz O'Shea handling the instrumental chores, excepting drums and percussion which are performed by CD co-producer and engineer Gerry Fielding. O'Shea's stellar musicianship, unique vocal styling, and production savvy bear the mark of a veteran of over 20 years. Over those years, he's performed in venues ranging from intimate clubs to sprawling stadiums, directed and appeared in music videos, and shared stages with such artists as Taj Mahal, Todd Rundgren, Rod Stewart, Alice Cooper, and Kim Mitchell. 'Serfin' The Beat' finds him in fine form - - the witty pun of the CD's title is only the first clue of the cleverness and musical adventurousness found in these 10 eclectic tracks. From the Zeppelin-esque propulsion of 'Come Back To Bed' playfully offset by the sensuous cooing of background vocalists The Katy Squad (aka Roxanne Tellier and Sharon Kaczmarczyk) to the barreling boogie beat of 'Character' and the intense balladry of 'The Passion Parade' this project rings with the essential, effervescent spirit of rock & roll!
