Product Notes

Full Name: Sheri Jo Porter Birthday: March 2, 1981 Hometown: Warsaw, MO Childhood: My childhood was the best! I grew up in a blue house on top of a hill. My best friend lived 2 doors down, and the old lady across the street never ran out of ice cream sandwiches. We rode bikes, climbed trees, built clubhouses, and camped in the backyard. What else could a kid ask for? First Words: 'Jacob' (my year older brother) and 'no.' First Stitches: I fell over my brother who was lying in the floor and I hit my chin on the back edge of a rocking chair. I was only a year old, and I still have a little 'railroad track' underneath my chin from the 5 stitches I got. Brothers + Sisters: I have... 3 half-sisters, 1 step sister, 3 half brothers, 1 full blooded brother, and 2 step brothers. That makes.... Ten! Nieces + Nephews: Seventeen - and one on the way! Favorite teacher: Mrs. Mercer, my kindergarten teacher. She casted me in my first musical - The Three Piggy Opera! High School: Warsaw High School, Home of the Wildcats! Activities: Stu-Co, English Club, Drama, Speech, National Honor Society, Pep Club Music: Madrigal Singers, All-State Choir, Band (Drum-section leader), Missouri Lions Club Band Sports: Basketball, Track, and Volleyball! Our volleyball team won like 4 games in the 4 years that I played! We had a good time, though. On Stage: My favorite performances were being the evil stepsister in Cinderella and the mother M'Lynn in Steel Magnolias. I also loved doing showstoppers. My signature song was 'Papa can you hear me?' from the musical 'Yentl.' Biggest influence in Music: Amy Grant Favorite color: blue Favorite Movies: I love stupid comedies that you can memorize and say the lines before the actors do: Wayne's World, anything with Mike Myers, Gone With The Wind, Shakespeare In Love, Pretty Woman. Personal Influences: My whole family. My mom and dad, and especially my sisters and brothers. Favorite Words Of Wisdom: Corinthians 13:4 'Love is patient, Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails....' I try to be like love. Hobbies: I love to read, and spend a few hours in a good library. Boating, swimming, camping, shooting pool. Oh yes, I'm a shark! My music story in a nutshell: My momma taught me to harmonize to KT Oslin and the Judds when I was 8. After I learned to harmonize, all I wanted to do was music. I sang in an honor's choir called Kool Keyboard Kids my 4th & 5th grade years, started as the only drummer in our 6th grade band and took solos to contest my 7th + 8th years. I made top ten talent in the America's National Teenager Pageant singing 'El Shadaii'. In high school, I really started getting into Drama. My singing 'debut' to my hometown was 'Papa Can You Hear Me' by Barbara Streisand. I performed it at the Warsaw Jubilee Days Queen Contest when I was 15. This song was difficult. But I had to show everyone what I could do, and somehow I nailed the song. From then, I have had complete support from my community. I took the same song to the KY3 talent show in Springfield, MO in '99. It was the biggest talent show I have ever been to. I sang the song twice. Once for preliminaries and again for the finals. I thought I did horribly both times. But it was the biggest surprise of my life when they called my name for first prize. This is where the manager for Doc Bates, Guyla Armstrong, saw me. She later asked me to sing a couple of songs with his band, so I did. I ended up playing the Missouri State Fair, the Colorado State Fair, and a few other gigs with Doc. During this time I realized that I really wanted to sing country music. So in the summer of 2000 I moved to Nashville. One year later I have my first album!
