Skatman (born David) Meredith was born and raised in the New York metro area and traveled south to college to pursue an art degree. Receiving a guitar as a graduation present, he taught himself to play and over time honed his guitar skills. In the first years after college Meredith lived and traveled in the South and New England before settling in Delaware, where he enjoyed regional notoriety in bands such as The Seemonkeys and The Action Figures. In the early 90's he began his solo career, developing a style which has been described as Intense Alternative Folk Rock. As Robert Beeson, Vice-President of Essential/Sublime Records (Jars of Clay) noted after hearing Meredith's latest recording: 'Skatman Meredith has one of the more refreshingly honest approaches to music and humanity that I have heard in recent memory. I'm a fan.' Writing songs which are filled with a simple wonder at life, his faith, and the world around him, Meredith manages to infuse his earthy lyrics with a transcendent reality. It's an honest voice, honest lyrics, and honest music that leaves you warm with the hope that life is not all angst but contains in itself the seeds of hope. Primarily acoustic guitar driven, one hears influences of Bruce Cockburn or Bob Dylan, yet Meredith can rock if he chooses with the pop perceptiveness of The Beatles and the high drama of Pink Floyd in evidence.
