Singer/songwriter Alan Jacobs has his own way of sneaking up on you. At first you'll hear these songs and think.. 'oh that's kinda cool' A minute later you'll be saying out loud 'wait...what?! Did he just say what I think he did?! Slow Mohicans'sense of humor works on a strange little corner of your brain. Once it's in there you're doomed. The point is there's a lot more going on here than you might expect. The CD is solidly in the tradition of California acoustic Rock/Country. It just clearly does NOT take itself too seriously. It brings to mind the group Ween who have such a commitment to 'the gag' that they don't mind if not everyone gets it. There are some lyrics here that are just beautiful and thought provoking. The song Downturn (track 4 ) seems to be about the state of things lately: 'big dog is breaking the ice he's about to take a swim stand back if you want to but we're all going in.' It's the kind of 'woah dude' moments you expect from music in the tradition of NIck Drake. Then the very next track, James Taylor, is an absurd story about a Mohawk sportin' hardcore Thrash band who stalk the 1970's folk heart Throb. 'James Taylor I want 5 bucks worth of what you've been smoking. And I'd like to meet that pig you're...' Anyway it's hilarious. I just hope there is no ring of truth in that one...seriously...Alan?...Dude?... Fans of Wilco, Sufjan, Velvet underground,Sun Kil Moon Neil Young etc.. Need these songs. Reviews: This CD actually lowers my blood pressure and occasionaly nakes me laugh. I bought it on a whim at CD baby and I've played it in the car non-stop since. Jeff in Pheonix, AZ, USA.
