With a new album being released in March, Smokekiller is ready to be seen and heard. The new record was mixed by Steven Drake (previously mixed the tragically hip, 54-40, among others). Smokekiller will be in Austin, TX for SxSW with the Jen Lane Band. Then a CD release tour with Leeroy Stagger. It begins with the breaking of a heart and the lighting of a cigarette. Music and inspiration follow, and as the music fills the air, and the lyrics fill the page, so dies the cigarette. Filter and ash, the by-product of lost time while writing. The songs kill the smoke and I write and play them. I have always wanted to be able to perform the songs as they are in my head. Not just to make it heavier for weight sake, and not to make it lighter for softness' sake. They are my voice, you don't have to listen, but you'll want to. Peace, smokekiller. "the mellow genius of smokekiller. Smokekiller, a.k.a. John Antoniuk, has evolved into one of the most capable solo players in the city, if not Western Canada." Andrew Schwab, editor of the Sheaf. (U of S student paper.) 'mellow but emotionally stirring show" Shannon Boklaschuk, Star Phoenix, Saskatoon. '13 plays with ambient noise and backmasking, showcases imaginative drumming, and also reveals Antoniuk's love of electric guitars - underpinning this sonic growth is what made smokekiller's name in the first place: Antoniuk's sweet melodies and talent as a lyricist.' caitlin ward, planet's magazine Opened for Ron Sexsmith Tegan & Sera Corb Lund Band The Waifs Wide Mouth Mason Mad Violet Jen Lane Leeroy Stagger Influences include matthew sweet, ryan adams, pixies, dinosaur jr., pavement.
