Kenesaw Mountain Landis
Album Summary: Kenesaw Mountain Landis finds Solyoni songwriters Dan Lurie and Dominic Aulisio revealing some of their most personal recordings to date. At times haunting, and always a bit off-kilter (as is the Solyoni way), this collection of basement and bedroom recordings explores such delicate subjects as killer bees, mountain towns, the amazing flight of the Aerobie, the pains of growing up, and of course heartbreak. The warm, spontaneous feel of the album is the result of an early decision to record exclusively on a TASCAM 488 8-track cassette recorder. The tunes range from sparse, edge-of-the-bed solo acoustic numbers, to loose full-band rockers featuring Solyoni's new Portland lineup - Dave Nash on guitar, Daniel Dominic Mancini on drums, and Jess Abel on bass and keys. (See album insert for full list of contributors.) Recording Notes: Produced by Dan Lurie and Solyoni. Recorded and mixed on TASCAM 488 analog 8-track cassette machine by Dan Lurie, Dave Nash, Robert Lurie, and Aaron Semer in The Spare Bedroom (Portland), The Dungeon (Portland), The Litterbox (Tempe), and Lil' Mustard Studios (Seattle). Mastered by Gus Elg at Sky Onion in Portland, Oregon. Past press for Solyoni: "Solyoni are that kind of 'first on the bill' band who stick in your memory long after you've forgotten the main act. Quirky and compelling, this skewed pop meandering demands a few listens. A Plan B abstract. A story in every tune." - Leicester Bangs "...a killer middle ground between dressed-up sweetness and on-a-bender spontaneity and sloppiness. It's prom night in a trash heap, and I like it." - ErasingClouds.com "...pop-inspired songs and abstract observations about everyday life. This is Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol through electric guitars and amplifiers." - LostAtSea.net Solyoni Bio: Portland/Seattle band Solyoni was originally formed in Athens, Ohio during the spring of 1999. Since then, the unpredictable folk-pop outfit has undergone a variety of forms and line-up changes while relocating it's headquarters to the Pacific Northwest. Songwriters Dan Lurie and Dominic Aulisio pen the lyrics and share frontman duties. Lurie recently moved from Seattle to Portland, Oregon, while Aulisio still resides in the Emerald City. Taking the collective approach to music making, the group gathers new contributors wherever it's two songwriters are settled. The current Portland incarnation features guitarist Dave Nash, bassist/multi-instrumentalist Jess Abel, and drummers Daniel Dominic Mancini and Shannon Handy.
