Product Notes
Charly Records proudly announces the long-awaited reissue of the original British mono edition of Sonny Boy Williamson & The Yardbirds - Recorded Live at the Craw-Daddy Club, Richmond (London), a landmark live recording that captures a pivotal moment in British blues history.
Recorded on December 8, 1963, at the Craw-daddy Club, this electrifying performance brings together veteran Chicago bluesman Sonny Boy Williamson and rising English R&B outfit The Yardbirds.
Originally issued in Britain in January 1966 (and released the following month in the U.S. with a different running order), the album stands as a defining statement of the era when the blues took root in the UK. During this period, Williamson toured Britain as part of the 2nd American Folk and Blues Festival, performing with several leading R&B and rock groups, including The Animals and The Yardbirds.
On this recording, Sonny Boy Williamson leads with vocals and harmonica, backed by the youthful energy of The Yardbirds-offering an early glimpse of a band soon to become one of Britain's defining rock acts. Most tracks capture their chemistry, alongside a few Yardbirds-only jams and two Sonny Boy solos, painting a complete snapshot of this historic night, and featuring a young Eric Clapton in some of his earliest surviving performances on record.
This reissue brings the original mono edition back to life, presenting the concert exactly as first heard by fans in 1966. More than a live album, Recorded Live at the Craw-Daddy Club, Richmond (London) captures the moment American blues collided with British youth, sparking a musical revolution that would change popular music forever.
