God has been nothing short of good to gospel producer/rapper Speedygunz. It's only evident on his 3rd solo release titled "New Day". Speedy has come a long way since the first time you may have heard him. There has been much growth in his production, concepts, and delivery. Wanting to do nothing but new things to match the title New Day, Speedy branched off from his usual "Hood" style of beats, and took his production from everywhere to Techno-ish to Rock. "I'm like a risk taking trendsetter, you feel me?" says Speedy. "Not a trendsetter in the sense of I create styles for people to follow, I just do my own thing and show people it's okay to be who you are and not what everybody else says you should be. Then when people see me doing my own thing and living comfortably doing so, they tend to follow and do their on thing as well. So I guess I'm a "Do Me" trendsetter!" Working with a lot of the usual cast that's normally apart of Speedy's projects, he once again linked up with little cousins Jacqwese and Drae, Best friend God's Child of the 1st Infantry, and the vocal monster Kalub Sims. He also collaborated with a cast of new comers; one being Oracle of Concrete Evangelist, holding it down on a solo mission this time around, Gospel Rock group OverKast, award winning contemporary gospel singer Alonzo Chadwick, Salt & Light ministries song bird J-Lee, and the best kept secret in Portland, Jakar Abel. Working a whole new cast into rotation with little time to finish the project would normally be a stressful process for any producer, but Speedy was up for the challenge. "I love working with new people. I love creating a new sound and experimenting. I like to do my own thing and push the limits. I like being able to take something that most people reject, and turning it into something they love. Most of the people I know don't listen to Rock or Techno, but "Take Me Away" and "Pump It Up" are most peoples favorite tracks on my album!" But it doesn't just stop there. Speedy also had a couple celebrity guests on board as well, from Southern gospel DJ pioneer DJ D-Lite, to Contemporary gospel Grammy nominee and 6 time Stellar award winner, Tonex. "That's major family!" Speedy says. "For me to be an independent local gospel artist, from Portland, OR at that, and hook up with a major artist like that, that's a blessing man! What more could you ask for?" Tonex blesses the CD on the intro and skit leaving to the listener's imagination the things to come in the future from him and Mr. Gunna himself. "I can't say what's gonna go down, but believe me, big things are to come in the future bro. You can believe that!" Speedy says as he smiles and winks. Overall, the project is a new sound that you never heard from Speedy, but it is just as good as the previous projects. Even though it has a new sound and new vibe, it still has the same focus, which is glorifying God through rap and converting the lost into believers. "That's all it's about to me fam. At the end of the day, I just want people saved. I want people to enjoying living for Christ and see that you can still have a good time as a Christian. That's what I'm here for." So with that said, preview the new project and support his ministry if it blesses you so he can continue to do what God has called him to do, and so God can continue to bless others through him. It's a New Day!
