The heart of SPHINXHEAD is a vision formed by Greg Kis, Sean Flynn, and Ed Kozmo. Greg and Sean met in a law school classroom. Greg was writing torch songs to an old girlfriend. Sean had played with a Southern rock band. At the same time, Greg worked with Ed on songs for their Jersey band TOURNIQUET. Ed had played drums and bass throughout the East Coast with a number of bands, including POINT BLANK, MORTALITY and OZ. Greg, Sean and Ed have written and recorded hundreds of songs, incorporating a wide variety of ideas and sounds. For their initial album, each member chose a few of their favorites. And along the way, a host of guest musicians stopped by to lay down a track or two. Johnny Charles, a great blues guitarist in his own right, contributed some terrific lead guitar. Johnny introduced the group to Ron Howden, best known as the drummer of the gold record-winning art-rock band NEKTAR. A lot of the drumming, and other production techniques are a result of recording at Ron's own Sheffield Studio. Others who joined Sphinxhead at Sheffield Studio included guitarists Keith Beck of the CHUTTERING MUMS, and Dan Kovalski. Recording artist Anne Sciolla added backing vocals later at Greg's New Jersey studio. The guest musicians come and go, but the constant is the Sphinxhead sound born in the hearts and minds of Greg, Sean and Ed. Greg sings and plays guitar and keyboard. Sean sings and plays guitar, keyboard and percussion. Ed sings, plays guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard.
