'Earthy' and 'straightforward' would be some of the words to describe the music that Blake Ohlson & Dan Lewis have been writing and recording for the past 2 years. Trying to capture the deep honesty of blues woven with the presence and drive of vintage rock, we set out to lay down pieces of our lives to the proverbial 'tape'. With songs that confront and explore many issues from drug addiction to the tattered life of a post-war veteran, the music has remained true. Over the past few years it seems there has been a resurgence of 'two man' bands. To be honest, it was rather easy for us. Both hailing from blue collar towns in Ohio (Cleveland and Youngstown) and working as orthopedic surgery residents, we many times see things in the same light. Our influences encompass an endless plain to include classics such as Zeppelin, Clapton, Hendricx, and Cash to newer 'whiteboy' soul like Mofro and the Black Crowes. We decided to call ourselves Steel Petals to remind us that sometimes things that are supposed to be soft and inviting can also be, at times, rigid and cold. Dan handles the drums and percussion. Blake does the rest. The collection of emotions and music we have dedicated ourselves to for many nights is called 'Gratefully Broken' The title reflects the simple irony of our lives.
