Rivers & Trails
Steve Madewell writes wonderful songs. He is a product of the Ohio landscape. Born and raised in the farmland of the southwest corner of the state, but spending most of his adult life where he currently lives, in the northeast Ohio snow belt. In addition to this blend of mid-west culture, his life has had two major influences, music and nature. He began singing and playing guitar early in his teens and has routinely performed in a myriad of venues ever since. He has been the opening act for many nationally recognized recording artists including Leon Russell, John Prine, Doc Watson, Jonathan Edwards, New Grass Revival, and John Sebastian. While his musical experiences have included working with many ensembles, he clearly enjoys solo performances. Steve has enjoyed a successful career in the conservation field, working to preserve land and promoting the value of natural resources, yet music has been a part of his life. Throughout his conservation career he has maintained a very active musical schedule. In recent years, Steve has shifted and expanded his musical efforts toward writing and recording original material and in 2002 he recorded Rivers and Trails. This is a selection of simple folk compositions based on the experiences he has had living, fishing and working in the out of doors. It seemed fitting that Steve's first original recording effort would acknowledge these major elements of his life. This simple production of songs is both introspective and humorous with an occasional jab at the fly angler. Rivers and Trails has been positively reviewed by out door writers across Ohio.
