Steve J Walker is a talented Christian singer/songwriter from Tulare, California. He became a Christian at the very young age of five years old. Four years later, Steve began playing the saxophone and quickly became more and more wrapped up in his love of music. Steve has been a part of various worship bands since the age of fourteen, beginning as a saxophone player on the church's praise team. He immediately found that playing his instrument for the Lord was quite a natural fit for him. Due to practice and, more importantly, his overall love of music, he rapidly began to improve. He has now played in, and led, various worship teams for over fourteen years. Steve's journey took an interesting turn in 1994 at a church sponsored conference based on the principle of learning to hear from God. During a period set aside for praying for one another one evening, he received both a promise and a calling from God through three different sources. After being split into small prayer groups, a man who had never met Steve suddenly looked up from praying and boldly stepped out in faith, proclaiming to him, "I believe God just showed me that you have been given the 'heart of David' and that He wants you to be a songwriter." Steve was enthused, but also curious, as he had never even attempted to write any music before. Later on in the evening, after the prayer groups had all rotated their members, a woman who did not know Steve either looked up while praying and said to him, "You have the 'heart of David' and I think that God wants you to be a songwriter." Needless to say, he was taken aback at the striking similarity with the words that he had been told earlier that same evening. The whole event culminated when, in their final prayer group rotation of the night, yet another man whom Steve had never met suddenly looked up while praying and stated, "You have the 'heart of David' and I think that the Lord wants you to be a songwriter." Steve has never forgotten that blessed evening in which God revealed a wonderful purpose and promise for his life. In order to begin cultivating his prophesied gifting, Steve began teaching himself music theory, piano, and guitar and he began practicing songwriting as well after he had graduated from high school. Drawing from a love of a wide variety of styles ranging from rock to jazz, and from folk to the blues, he started seeing the work set before him by God begin to come to fruition. In 2006, God started giving worship songs to Steve for the first time since he had begun writing music. Up until then all of the music he had written had been either Christian hard rock or a variety of instrumentals based in different styles of music. From 1996 through 2007, the Lord had blessed Steve tremendously with lucrative work in the medical field. However, he knew that God was still moving him towards a career in music. He was just waiting for a sign that the time was right. Then one night in June, 2007, while lying in bed, his wife Gina heard God speak to her and suddenly turned towards him and said "You're supposed to do it... to do music." This was the sign which he had been waiting for. He began setting the wheels in motion, working with a dear friend and fellow believer, Paul Serpa, the producer and owner of Rio Productions, to develop an album of worship music made up of songs from a variety of styles of music which he had written himself. All of the songs have been received extremely well by the groups in which he has played them. His main goal is that 1: His songs will help the listening audience to be able to express their own personal worship to God in brand new and artistic ways; and 2: that they will simultaneously minister to their listeners as well. Without a doubt, this move from the medical field to the music field has required a gigantic leap of faith for him and his wife, but God has shown them that no matter what happens, Steve is doing what he knows that he is supposed to be doing for the Lord.
