Strange River is a decidedly unique acoustic folk-rock band based out of Northern New Jersey. With warm vocal harmonies, tasteful cover tunes, and intriguing originals, the band can entertain a variety of crowds with enthusiasm and energy. The band has it's roots in the classic voice of rock 'n roll, and builds from the solid musical foundations of artists including The Beatles, The Byrds, The Everly Brothers, The Beach Boys, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to create a sound that is Strange River's own. It's members have each always identified with music. Joshua Ritter (guitar, vocals) is the main contributor to the band's original material and uses both six- and twelve-string guitars to produce a variety of different approaches to these songs, as well as to innovative recreations of crowd-pleasing tunes from the 1950's, 60's, and 70's. Ben Abeles (percussion, vocals) serves as the critical front man of the band, whose warmth and congeniality create the immediate rapport with the audience. Dave Abeles (percussion, vocals), as the main percussionist of the group, often plays several instruments simultaneously and is the most vital contributor in giving each song a personal and recognizable identity. Strange River's members have played together for more than a decade. This history of making music has allowed a natural presence to develop to the point where the band is able to relate to the audience on a level rarely found today in the realm of live musical performance. And the experience is just beginning: the trademark of Strange River's performances is the flawless three-part harmony. Ben's crisp and clear voice combines with Joshua's powerful vocal bass and Dave's soaring high harmonies to create a truly astounding effect akin to the great bands of the 1960's and 1970's. When Strange River performs, the depth of musical experience is evident as is the fun they have on stage. With a strong vision of vocal harmonies, Strange River has been able to maintain the artistic side of music and can bring that experience to any venue. This self-titled debut CD displays some of Strange River's stongest musical choices in cover material. The recording exhibits the band's vocal harmony-based sound while showcasing the landmark songs that inspired them to make music of their own.
