Shrapnel, Stuart Maybe's third and most eclectic studio album in the same number of years, once again shows off Maybe's brilliant writing and arranging. Drawing on brass and cello, Maybe shows his musical range from Chicago to Charles Manson. Some are heartfelt, like the 9/11-inspired 'The Day the Sky Fell,' while some ('Emperor of Darkness,' 'The Drunk Next Door') are anarchy-bent. Through the years, Maybe has refined his writing, production, and performance. Almost all of the album is performed entirely by Maybe. Shrapnel will likely become the sort of album that will shape the way rock records are made. Stuart Maybe also records as Marlowe, available on CDBaby.
