Sunshine Doray\'s eponymous debut is an emotive trip into the haunted, Satirical, sometimes sarcastic and always lyrical world of talented songstress/pianist Kate Feeny. Listening is not a passive experience here: Sunshine Doray\'s dramatic tales will leave you laughing out loud one minute, choking back a sob the next with tongue-in-cheek and sober tales of people with leprosy, lost loves and heavy drinkers. The album enchants with a visceral, somehow old-timey experience, transporting listeners to a café in 1890s Paris, or perhaps a 1920s music hall saloon with a can-can romp accompanying the piano. The songs are varied enough in style they\'re hard to place or categorize, but suffice it to say, Sunshine Doray\'s reportoire takes you back to somewhere that\'s a bit more romantic and tragic and gilded than the sweaty venues where the artistic crowd congregates today. -Lisa M.
