Sound of Rain
Born in country Victoria, Australia, the family moved to Melbourne, where she was raised from age four. Suzanne's introduction to a music filled life started with weekend trips back to the country visiting relatives where Sunday sing alongs around her great aunts kitchen table regularly ensued. Suzanne's detection early in life of how music made people laugh, cry and enlighten the soul, inspired her own musical journey. Growing up in Melbourne gave Suzanne access to see so many of her favorite national and international touring artists during the mid 80-mid 90s including Bonnie Raitt, Michelle Shocked,Lucinda Williams and BB King. At the same time she was lead singer/guitarist in a 4 piece original guitar pop outfit The Swing Club. Fronted by two girls with electric guitars, The Swing Club won The Melbourne Uni Battle of the Bands and had supports with Lime Spiders, doing the Melbourne circuit for 4 years. During the 90's, Suzanne spent a few years travelling and working in Europe, where she bared herself to the full scale of music performance from busking solo for 3 months in front of Notre Dame to a blues trio tour in the South of France, to an opening spot in a Paris, left bank, jazz club. Back in Australia, late nineties, she started writing her owns songs. To a large extent, Suzanne's life experiences have cultivated her singing style. Suzanne sings with effortless accuracy and genuine expression, believing music is the organic solvent that deconstructs any artificial barriers across humanity. Suzanne sings with an honesty deeply embedded in her songs that resonate with a blues, soul, country and folk influence. She doesn't choose her music by genre but is simply drawn to music that makes honest connections to the emotions in the songs.
