Even in Silence
For some, the idea of the 'Perfect Life' is simple: 1. Go through school; 2. Graduate; 3. Get married; 4. Have three and a half kids; and 5. land a high paying job with a boss who's greatest priority is to make you feel like you haven't even completed step 1. For Carl & Beth of Sweetestday, things aren't quite that simple. Or maybe in a way, you could say things are way simpler. Only one word would be necessary to sum up the 'Perfect Life' for them: love. Yes, love. Sure, it sounds a bit like a Disney book at first, but it's a loaded word to put it loosely. The four letter morsel plays a bigger part than we think in our day to day lives. You should love everything you do, and more importantly, only do what you love. Wake up every morning in the arms of the one you love, let the crazy love you have for them carry you through the day...as though they've never left your side. And if nothing else, spend your day doing something that you passionately love. Feeling a little overwhelmed by the word? Try listening to a Sweetestday song! While love may be the most popular topic of discussion for Beth & Carl, their music truly spans the gap of the heart. They skillfully craft songs about happiness, sadness, life, more happiness, and every other aspect of the human emotion, while letting love fill the cracks in between. While 'Even In Silence' might only be the freshman release for Sweetestday, there lies a deep maturity in their music that only comes from having the focus, and more importantly the true passion for music that they have. It's hard to imagine that while a young Carl was woodshedding in his bedroom for 5 hours a day, milking every last note he could out of his vast Chet Atkins record collection, at that very moment, Beth was doing the same thing. Except her time was better spent listening to and soaking up every nuance of every great vocalist she could lay her ears on. The harmonious merge in their musical roads couldn't have come at a better time for either of them. Both were struggling to find their place in music, and in life. And like a beautiful melody, the song of Sweetestday was written. Back to the project at hand, 'Even In Silence' was a long time in the making...two years to be not-so exact. But finishing the album didn't really signify the end of anything, only the very beginning of a lifetime of two soulmates creating the music that they love. From the Latin inspired feel of 'Everything To Me', to the soft lullaby sounding 'Ever After', the new album is one of many textures. Look at it as a melting pot of Beth & Carl's vast musical experiences. Those of Jazz, blues, 80s rock, bluegrass, and yes, a tinge of country. Despite their diverse influences, their sound is anything but inconsistent. They have managed to take all those affections and create a refreshing, soulful, yet organic sound that defies all labels. Some might call it 'Romantic Acoustic Pop', but we'll let you decide for yourself. While the song subjects may vary greatly, love will always remain the main ingredient from which their music is created. If ever the story of Sweetestday was written, it would be one of two people living a life of love and loving the life they lived. Now that, is the 'Perfect Life'. When our bodies turn to dust We'll leave behind the best of us Our two souls will be enraptured Love remains, ever after. - Sweetestday.
