Live at the Logan 2
This is the second of three live albums we've cultivated from two separate shows recorded at Kelly's Logan House in Wilmington, Delaware. Both were recorded at what would prove to be poignant times for the band, both as a whole and as individuals. The first show, recorded on September 10, 2005, came only a week or so after we had first discussed the possibility of us not touring any more. With the exception of a handful of people in our inner circle, no one knew of this. We all recognized that this was one of our last chances to get our unrecorded material on tape, and the songs have a real sense of urgency as a result. The second show, recorded November 5, 2005, came after we had announced the end of the band. We all knew there were only a limited number of shows left. The recorded versions of each song on this and the other two albums are exactly what we played on those two nights. The only editing done has been to master the recordings and place the songs in the order they appear on the albums. There are no overdubs on any of the songs. Any mistakes we made at the shows are there. I'd like to say that this is completely intentional, but that of course wouldn't be true. The fact that the songs aren't perfect really happened out of necessity as much as anything else. It is great though, in that it allows us to document what we sounded like live at the top of our game. The songs presented here really do capture how we sounded at the pinnacle of our abilities as a live act - and we always were a much better live band than we were anything else. Whereas the first album in this three volume set may have captured the emotional element of the band, we think this one best captures the energy of our live show. This CD is a good representation of what you would have heard if you had seen the band headlining at Grape Street in our home city of Philadelphia or as an opening act somewhere around the northeast. You can dance to every tune - you could maybe call it our "party mix." Most of these songs are results of collaborations between various members of the group. The molding of the vast array of influences that everyone brought is evident on this volume. It contains many of our funkier numbers, like "South Street", "Take Your Time", and "Funk In A." It has more mellow but equally danceable songs like "Right Thing" and "Mind Full." There is the hard rock of 'Prepare Me.' "Remember When" has been one of our crowd favorites for almost the full life of the band. This album also contains our cover of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" embedded within an extended version of "After All." Finally, "The Nomad" appropriately ends the album - as it ended so many of our shows - complete with a teaser of "Billie Jean" and our take on Herbie Hancock's fusion masterpiece "Chameleon." **NOTE: If you want to buy all three 'Live at the Logan' albums, purchase the 'Live at the Logan Full 3-Album Set,' as you'll save yourself some money!
