In a State of Undress
Tea's second studio effort, 'In a State of Undress', is crammed full with foot tappin' and booty smackin'. In a State of Undress follows in the vein of the band's 2001 debut, Anfang, with a gushing concoction of '70s-inspired funk, classic rock, jam and a little bit of pop thrown in just for kicks. 'Our music is kind of stylistically all over the place,' drummer Alex Smith observes. 'There's a sound that the album has, but no two songs are really alike.' The album jiggles all around like a Jell-O mold, all crooning vocals, fuzzing guitar wahs and a catchy rhythmic playfulness. It's all about dance. One, unified funk nation, under dance. 'Most of our songs are electric guitar-based. But it's not like we have a defined process of how the songs are going to be written, so they can go anywhere,' Smith nods. 'It's basically just to keep the dancing moving forward.' Man, there's just no fakin' the funk. And Tea's got it bagged. Parliament would be proud. -Fly Magazine, June 2005.
