Music from the Ted Kennedy JR. Story & Special Fri
A nod of the head signals lights out. Now the room is ink-black save for the flickering motion picture images, sans music, playing upon a small editing machine screen. There is an editor at the console, a director sitting next to him, a producer at the back of the room, arms akimbo, silent and invisible in the darkness. And then there is Teo Macero..pacing, always pacing.. eyes foraging the images for any pictorial nuance of the precise emotion hidden beneath the surface of the celluloid. He hums now and again..a seemingly aimless humming, as the remarkable mental abstraction process whirls about in the music center of his brain. Some weeks later Teo returns to that same room with a colorful, passionate score. A melodic essay at once pensive, literate, euphonious, moving ebullient..and often sad. The music is ripe with surprises..often witn the grain..but sneakily against the grain when you'd least expect it..a de riueur signature for a Macero score. Teo is all music..drinks and breathes like a purely musical creation. And all his music is an elixir for the music lover's soul. Teo is a genius.. God bless you, Maestro. Bobert F Fuisz, MD.
