Product Notes

Born the third oldest of 12 children to Reverend and Mrs. Lee Jones in Mount Vernon New York, Terence began at an early age to gravitate towards music. Starting with teaching himself the piano and later learning to play the drums at church as well as singing in the choir. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY and has many fond childhood memories. Although there was quite a bit of crime in the community where he grew up, he managed along with the rest of his family to stay out of it due to their close ties and involvement in their local church. 'Growing up in a religious home had many benefits --it was a drug-free and smoke-free environment.', says Terence. 'I remember hearing my father praying often in the early hours of the morning for each of us to be kept free from that drama.' One of the things Terence remembers is the feeling he received from playing the piano. He discovered that certain chords and chord transition can make or break a song... At the age of 12 he began to compose music and write lyrics. 'My style of playing the piano was pretty limited and simple back then and I was thrilled with each new chord I learned along the way', says Terence. His skills of playing the piano and drums increased with much practice, listening to Jazz station and picking up chords or by learning chord changes from the musicians of his church. By the age of 19, he was shifted gears and joined the U. S. Navy. During this time he, would write songs, mostly religious songs with a contemporary or Jazz flare. In the early 80's he was stationed in Keflavik, Iceland as a Computer Engineer. It was in Iceland that he received quite a bit of studio exposure. While there, he worked with local Icelandic musicians and sang background vocals on a couple of albums produced there. 'The two years I spent in Iceland was amazing, I will never forget it! After serving for seven years in the Navy he received an honorable discharge and moved to Washington, DC. He kept himself busy assisting churches and other musicians in the studio by singing or playing drums or piano... In 1989 Terence produced his first album entitled 'You Can Make It'. It was his first solo effort in which he composed, wrote and performed all of the instruments and vocals on a project. It took nearly 10 months to release. He teamed up with another writer by the name of Monica Usherwood for the song 'We Running Out Of Time', a song that he sung duet with Debra Gray. Shortly after the album was completed, things took a tragic, almost fatal turn when Debra was involved in a car accident which left her in a coma for over a month. She was a registered nurse and had fallen asleep at the wheel. The accident left her in a near-quadriplegic state in Maryland. 'I still pray for her to this day.' says Terence. 'She had an amazing voice.' Terence relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1991, and became employed by Bank Of America. In 1994, he produced, performed the music on 'His Word' album. This was a in the Contemporary Christian genre. This CD boasted such songs as 'God Is Real', 'Come Bless The Lord' and 'Nail-scarred Hands' a song featuring local soloist Rose Belk. This CD received a ton of airplay on local stations as well as in Washington state. Through the years Terence kept his 'day job' because it was very important to him be available to raise his children. 'I always felt that my music should be heard by the masses", says Terence, 'However it often took a back seat to my roles of husband and father.' In late 1999, Terence produced and performed his first Contemporary Jazz CD entitled 'A Golden Touch', This was rated has one of his best album's he's produced. It was featured on original MP3.com website with airplay on station around the country. This album includes his own Jazzy rendition of 'Amazing Grace'. He has sold thousands of these CD's via MP3.com and via live performances throughout the Charlotte area. Terence later came up with an idea to take his music to the masses by getting a contract with managers Concord Mills Mall. It was here that things began to shift gears. during the weekends he would set up a make-shift booth and perform his music live for the onlookers who would, in most cases, buy a CD after hearing a song. This exposure enabled him to complete work on another CD entitled 'You're Always With Me'. This amazing CD features songs such 'Crying For Love', 'See-Thru', and the title track - 'You're Always With Me'. 'I love to see the faces of those who hear me sing and perform my music.' says Terence, 'I can literally see in their eyes what their feeling! It's a pretty powerful thing and gives me goose bumps whenever I think about it.' It was here that he was spotted by the talent coordinator for the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Kim Cook. She booked him to open for several famous bands and performers that came through Charlotte, NC. Artists such as Usher, Joe, Keith Sweat, Chaka Kahn, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Frankie Beverly and Maze, to name a few. He received praise and encouragement from one of the managers of Earth, Wind and Fire as having a very soulful and innovative sound. Terence continued to play in Malls and opened for mainstream artists at Verizon until late 2002. He released another hot CD entitled 'Just For You' under the alias, Taje' (pronounced Tah-Jay). This CD is a smooth mixture of R&B, and smooth Jazz and features local artists such as the phenomenal sax player by the name of Rob Lowery and his sensational singing wife, Cynthia. The couple is featured on track entitled, 'Peace Of Mind'. This CD is receiving airplay in Charlotte to this day and has become a favorite of many. Top songs on this CD include, 'What I Feel', 'Love Me So Right', and 'Princess Of Diamonds'. His music is magical and is guaranteed to thrill the senses.
