Burning with the Message
Scott Chase and I have performed together on stage close to 30 years. He accompanied me mainly on the washboard the early years. He was in the band, Lambchop for awhile and now performs, sings lead and harmony with The Limitations here in Nashville. He\'s been on all of my CD\'s everything from the saw to the wrenches to sheet metal strung from the walls, a little fiddle, a little mouth harp, and of course his well traveled lacquer can. He produced my first two CD\'s on CHECKERED PAST, contributing significantly to the sound as it evolved. We\'ve had a similar mindset from the start, and as everything has changed, much has remained the same. Two of these songs are on my earlier CD. THE LAST DESPERATE MAN. That song in particular was a lot of money and a deadline involved, and we had a good vocal and Paul Niehaus some mighty fine pedal steel lead; but some of the lyrics didn\'t quite sit right with me. The revised lyrics are on this CD. Nothing wrong the first one, just these say it more like I wanted. The first song, \'They All Fall Down,\' same lyrics as the earlier CD, just acoustic, maybe a little quicker tempo. This CD was cut in two sessions. Most of these songs are first takes. We made no effort to clean it up in any way. As have all my CD\'s from the start, this one has songs 20-25 years old, songs I was performing regularly the period just before the recording, and songs I had never sung in public before and was reading the lyrics as i sang them.
