Product Notes

Here's what Andrew Aber of New Yorks Village Voice had to say about Tommy Grasso Two: 'Armed with his guitar, Grasso is a heartfelt, hardworking performer in the mode of a New York version of John Mellencamp, with a dose of Bonjovi, and Stevie Ray Vaughn funk thrown in.' It's 'now' rock 'n' roll. A little history Growing up he basically lived in his older brothers' recording studio. Observing and absorbing his surroundings, he developed skills as a multi-instrumentalist. From blues to metal, Tommy has played a little of everything. Both in the studio and live, he has worked as a front vocalist, guitarist, bass player, drummer, and keyboardist. Checking out the new CD credits, you'll notice that he plays all the instruments on several cuts. Most comfortable up front, Tommy can't seem to stay away from what he loves the most, singing in a rock 'n' roll band. That is what this record 'Tommy Grasso Two' is all about. Where is this all coming from? Tommy's parents, Lenny Sr. and Margaret, met in 1953 singing opposite each other in a variety show. This meant that if they decided to be lifetime partners, any offspring would have a high exposure to music and a high likely hood to pursue it. Five kids later, Tommy being the fifth, there were piano lessons all around, plays, recitals, band and orchestra concerts, marching band, voice lessons, and so on. They all had the musical 'bug', especially the three boys: Lenny Jr., Ralph, and of course Tommy. With help from Dad, Tommy and middle brother Ralph assisted oldest brother Lenny Jr. in building the first incarnation of Little Apple Recording when he was just 14. It would turn out to be the foundation and confirmation that these three brothers from New Jersey would dedicate their lives to music. The recording format was an Ampex eight track on one inch tape, teamed up with a custom designed all tube recording console. Several years later, the Grasso brothers would learn the console was one of three built and that it was designed by Les Paul. Over the years the studio has gone through many reincarnations. It now consists of both analog and digital twenty-four track recording formats and is still housed in the same family owned building that once was 'GRASSO PASTA CO.' in Raritan, New Jersey. Enter Myron Dove.... While keeping in step as an artist/musician/performer, Tommy also keeps his sound engineering chops up. He has managed to mix over a dozen Broadway shows, and national tour productions of Broadway shows in the past six years. He often performs in local clubs while on these tours to promote his own music. While on tour with the musical 'RENT' in 1999, a stop in San Francisco would lead Tommy to one Mr. Myron Dove. Myron has worked with Steve Winwood, Isaac Hayes, Stevie Wonder, Neil Schon and Jonathan Cain of Journey, to name a few. He is currently on tour with guitar icon, the multi-platinum Santana. Myron checked out some of Tommy's material and decided to dig right into it. Since March of 2000, Myron has produced over a dozen of Tommy's songs. He often brings in his Bay-area musician friends to lay down rhythm and support tracks. Tony Lindsey (lead singer of Santana) appears on several tracks of TG two, as does Dave Meneketti guitar wiz and vocalist from 80's super group Y&T. During Santana downtime, Tommy and Myron continue to work together bi-coastally, Myron in the bay area and Tommy in NYC. Technology is so cool! Check the 'TG Two' production credits, and you'll find that the songs Myron has worked his magic on, capture Tommy not only at his best, but really texture what the song has to say lyrically, and musically. While listening from cut to cut, you can hear the influences spin by. Just a bit from heavy hitting rockers and a taste of many significant radio bands. You will also find choruses that stick to you like glue. Does that make it 'the Eagles meet Led Zepp' with a touch of Seal, and a dash of Beck? Check out what Andrew Aber of the Village Voice had to say about it.(see the press page) Tommy also owns and operates Entity studios inc. A totally digital recording facility in New York City where he produces voice-overs, music beds, and independent artists.
