Beautiful - mellow, spacey Notes: New York act creates a sound which is at once both familiar and unique. Not easy to classify, Totally Free has been compared with disparate acts often credited with spearheading their own genres. Flowing from one idea to the next through various soundscapes as effortlessly as the name 'Totally Free' would suggest, it is not unusual for multiple styles to mix; dreamy guitar washes cascade over sparkling electronics, a scorching psychedelic solo blazes over a tribal dance rhythm, an acoustic ditty stutters through a strobing phaser effect before launching into a post-punk dual guitar assault reminiscent of mid-80's Sonic Youth and an ultra-heavy bass rolls over a mellow groove to eventually come crashing into a spiraling crescendo of worbling, mangled guitar wreckage... all within the first few songs. Varying styles and experimental song structures cover a lot of territory, but it all gels into a cohesive sound jokingly referred to as 'DROP' (Dance/Rock/Other/Psychedelia), proving that a good freak is hard to pin down. There's a little something for everyone on this debut. Fans of indie rock, postpunk, alternative, stoner, psychedelic and unusual music in general will probably appreciate this.
