Valerie Jolivet Valerie Jolivet is a true songbird, with versatility and a gift from God. An anointed Singer by the Lord, Valerie is the oldest child of Pastor L.R. Dornes, Sr. and her late mother, Cleopatra Dornes. She grew up in Houston, Texas where at the time she attended East Bethel Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Hebert High School in 1970 and from Lamar University in 1987 with a degree in Sociology. Valerie made her professional singing debut in Port Arthur Texas, with the performance of actor Dr.William Marshall of California as he portrayed Frederick Douglas. She has performed in three operas: Showboat, Mikado, and Camelot, with the Beaumont Civic Opera. She was a guest on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show in 1988,which was aired nationally. Valerie was the opening performer for the Shirley Caesar Concert in 1989, and Beverly Crawford in March 2002. Her debut album,Blessed Assurance, was released in April 1989. In August 1997, Mrs. Jolivet recorded her second album, Press Toward The Mark of the 13 songs, nine were written by Valerie. She recorded at Home Alone Studio in Beaumont, Texas which is owned by Pastor Ralph Foster. The album was remixed by The Sound Lab at Disc Makers in Pennsauken,New Jersey. In 1999, she appeared on Gospel Showcase, T.V. She is currently a member of Antioch Baptist Church, in Beaumont,Texas. Valerie also ministers in the song at the youth, county, state, and Federal Prisons in the Beaumont area. Her third CD, Songs of the Heart to the Lord, was released in April 2001. Valerie's fourth CD, In Your Presence Lord, release date, July 2006.
