Product Notes

This CD is available now in the special SALE section of the CD Baby website. And check out the great download price! Q--First off, for all those i-poders out there, is there any one song on the CD that stands out for you? A--If I were to choose a hit single, it'd probably be the epic, cinematic Island Queen, which is song #15. Or the scandalous Around the Weigh--#10. Or for kicks there's Got no Brakes--#8. Then there's 'The Show'--a song seen through childhood eyes. Q--Who are your musical influences? A--Some of the more interesting bands I've listened to and who knows maybe something rubbed off: Mekons, Minutemen, Big Star, X, Husker Du, early REM, E Street Band, Fetchin' Bones, Crime & the City Solution, Jesus & Mary Chain, Pere Ubu, CCR, Strokes, Replacements, Gone, Meat Puppets. Q--What about the acoustic guitar? A--Some of the acoustic guitarits I've enjoyed listening to are Leo Kottke, John Fahey, John Lee Hooker and Richard Thompson (also electric). Oh, and early Boss, and that Moody Blues song 'The Question'... To be honest, I play the guitar pretty much in my own kind of ways...and I'm also influenced by electric guys, from Danny Kirwan to Billy Zoom to Peter Hook. Q--What is the musical mood on this CD? A--These songs resemble narrated dreams. Some are fantastic visions, others are more like nightmares...Like in a dream, there's heightened sense of reality. Q--A favorite lyric on the CD? A--"Who's the one in the middle of the night who calls my name and who's the one I noticed looking at my gaze?"(from Night Tick Tick Tock) Also "The game it was assembled, but no one seemed to care and the ending was predictable, I was there." (from The Ending to a Pin) Q--What's the highlight from a guitarist perspective? A--There are some unusual techniques for guitar on display in several of the songs involving the strumming/picking hand. The "vocals" on the last track are "sung" by the guitar--near the "bridge," actually. The guitar played throughout is a Yamaha FG-335, which gets a 9.4 out of 10 overall rating on Harmony Central's website. Just google 'guitar yamaha fg-335' and it's the first site listed... Q--Well, we're out of time, eh? A--The running time is 48:48. You'd think 20 songs in about 50 minutes might be choppy, but it all flows together pretty well. I guarantee that once you start playing this CD you won't want to turn it off--you'll be drawn-in. Here are some quotes from the above-mentioned website on the guitar played on this CD: * 'a full, rich sound' * 'How can it get better than this? I mean great sound!' * 'none, I MEAN NONE sound as good as this.' * 'The sound on this guitar is nothing short of remarkable.'
