In the late 1990s, maverick L.A. cop Sgt. John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) and crazed super-criminal Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) are put in suspended animation by the state, but when Phoenix is revived and escapes into the non-violent, politically correct society of 2032, the authorities have to thaw out Spartan in order to stop his old nemesis.
