Tower Blues CD Notes 2003 The John Paulson Jazz Quartet The John Paulson Jazz Quartet has been performing throughout the Midwest for over 19 years. The group was featured 'live' on MPR's Morning Show this May in a broadcast from the Sheldon Theater in Red Wing. Other venues have included festivals, clubs like the Dakota Bar and Grill in St. Paul, colleges and high schools. Dr. Paulson is professor of music at Saint Mary's University where he has directed jazz studies and taught woodwinds for the last 22 years in addition to being Music Industry program director. He received his BM and Master of Music degrees from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and his DMA in music ed. from the University of Washington in Seattle. He has published numerous articles and done educational CD's for The Saxophone Journal and Jazz Player magazine. The group performing on Tower Blues includes John Paulson, saxophones and flute; Larry Price, piano; Terry Grosskopf, bass; and Rich MacDonald, drums & vibes. This band is known for it's hard hitting swing and repertoire of standards including well know bossa novas and ballads. In addition to being adjunct music instructor at Winona State University, Larry Price is a lawyer for the Winona diocese, Dr. Rich MacDonald teaches percussion and jazz studies at Winona State University and Terry Grosskopf is a free lance bass teacher and instructor in the LaCrosse, WI area. The group performs on a regular basis in the southeastern Minnesota area.
