Product Notes

"Hey, Hey Mama, said the way she sing, Got a way with words, music, everything!" - Scott Taylor, music journalist, Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Times, The All Music Review "Lauren and her producer Don Henry have made an incredibly poignant and personal album. These songs run the gamut from adult lullabies to swampy celebrations, and they're all delivered with the droll turns-of-phrase and great humor that Lauren has inherited in part from her dad and which she has refined through her own experiences. I hope this gets adapted for musical theater, as difficult as the subject matter seems; the songs are a natural for that milieu. I'm proud to call Lauren a friend and a peer, and I hope everyone discovers her gifts with this book and record.' - Peter Holsapple, co-founder of the dB's, touring member of REM and Hootie & The Blowfish 'Too often, albums are just a collection of songs but A JOURNEY TO THE SON is a 'concept album' in the best possible sense. It's a heartfelt story sung and written by the one who truly experienced the tale. Kudos to Lauren and producer/co-writer Don Henry for creating something real and really beautiful.' - Bill Lloyd, Foster & Lloyd co-founder, and Stringed Instrument Curator, Coutry Music Hall of Fame & Museum NASHVILLE - As a young girl growing up in Nashville, Lauren Braddock Havey, the daughter of legendary songwriter Bobby Braddock, dreamed of her own artistic pursuits: singing, acting and penning her own music. But one of her greatest dreams was to have a baby and be a parent someday. As the 'someday' crept up and became her reality, Lauren was crushed to recieve the news that she and her husband Jim were unable to conceive a baby unless they pursued in vitro fertilization, an expensive and uncertain alternative. After making the brave decision to go through with the in vitro process, a white-knickle journey ensued, one that was almost tragically derailed (by an amniotic fluid embolism, an extremely rare and most-often fatal obstetric emergency), but which ended happily and triumphantly. Lauren has written a masterful memoir about her bumpy road to motherhood, through her first twelve months as a parent, titled A Journey to the Son (Two Harbors Press, October 2009). She has also created a truly unique "folk-rock opera" concept album of the same name to be released concurrently with the book (sold separately). With a song for each chapter, A JOURNEY TO THE SON was co-written by Lauren and her record producer, Grammy-winner Don Henry, who produced Lauren's eponymous critically-praised debut CD in 2002. (Warner Brothers' artist Blake Shelton recorded one of Lauren and Don's co-writes, "If I Was Your Man," for his platinum-selling debut CD.) The 14 tracks on A JOURNEY TO THE SON beautifully and craftily capture the chaos, gumption, and sheer joy associated with Lauren's story. Lauren shares her deeply personal story through song with passion, wit, and honesty. Don Henry's production compliments the raw emotional subject matter found on the tracks "Growing a Mother," "December 11," and "Worrier to Warrior," as well as on the playful tongue-in-cheek tracks "The Waiting Womb," "Breast Intentions," and "Spit Happens". There's some "mom-rock" for the mommy crowd, and some pop for Pop, too! Alice Randall, best-selling author and songwriter, commented, " .. Lauren Braddock (Havey) is a great artist. She turns the chaos of infertility land and at risk pregnancy land into a story that inspires and astounds. Lauren's quirky intelligence and deeply rooted joy transform this difficult journey into a wise and jagged smile of a tale. It's a very good thing to see genius Bobby Braddock's daughter manifest a brilliance all her own.'
