    Description

The Phantom Planet is a black-and-white science fiction film starring Dean Fredericks, Coleen Gray, Anthony Dexter, and Francis X. Bushman. It is 1980, and the United States Air Force's Space Exploration Wing has bases on the moon, on the eve of a mission to Mars. When another of it's two-member crewed Pegasus spacecraft mysteriously disappears, rumors begin circulating of space monsters and phantom planets. Captain Frank Chapman (Dean Frederick), and his navigator Lt. Ray Makonnen (Richard Weber) are ordered to investigate. The spaceship is struck by a meteor shower and both Chapman and Makonnen are forced outside the ship to repair the damage, and are both pierced with meteor particles. Makonnen is killed by the meteor shower, but Chapman is able to return to the spaceship, but has to make an emergency landing on an asteroid. Upon exiting the spaceship, Chapman is approached by tiny humanoids; he instantly shrinks to their size and is taken underground. Chapman finds two beautiful women among the 'Rhetonians' and is put to the test when he must fight another creature for one of the women's affections. Love, a duel to the death, and an attack of an alien race of 'fire people' make this one of the most adventurous and exciting sci-fi films of all time! (82 minutes - 1961 - Black & White - 4:3)
